The Head Lifeguard is responsible for protecting our patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies in the pool, while also finding new and fun ways to teach our safety practices! This position will assist with scheduling, coordinating, and leading in-service training, as well as monitor performance, ensure that all required employee certifications are kept up to date, and conduct regular checks and audits of our facilities. The Head Lifeguard plays a crucial role in achieving success, helping us to create a vibrant atmosphere of water-filled fun and safety!

Incentive Compensation

$12.00 - $17.00 hourly

Experience Requirements

- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must have at least 1 year of lifeguard experience


- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations
- Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor
- Assist in scheduling shifts, as well as coordinating and leading in-service training
- Monitor and maintain documentation for all lifeguard training and certifications
- Ensure that lifeguards perform in accordance with JAM Center safety regulations and policies
- Conduct semi-annual pool equipment checks and inform management of needed pool maintenance
- Check inventory of aquatics supplies and report to Director when supplies or equipment need to be ordered
- Conduct regular audits of department specific documentation and files
- Complete records and reports
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions
- Participate in all required training, initiatives, and meetings
- Maintain fitness level (swimming skills, strength, and endurance)
- Maintain cleanliness of the facility
- Report any maintenance concerns to the Director of Aquatics
- Keep all personal qualifications up to date
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics


- Ability to lift a person off the bottom of the pool and out of the water (average weight 150 lbs)
- Perform all skills required for Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certifications and in-service training as directed by management
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time in an indoor environmentally controlled area
- Comfortable in water

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with arms and hands. Employee must be able to talk, hear, taste, smell, and see (both near and far). Employee will occasionally be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Preferred Qualifications:
- LGI Certification
- Swim Instructor Experience
