Under the direction of the Director of Youth and Recreation, Youth Advocates assist with the coordination of youth programs. These individuals must maintain high personal standards and adhere to and carry out the mission of the JAM Recreation Center. Youth Advocates are categorized as Part-Time 20+ hours weekly, working a schedule from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Incentive Compensation

$8.50 - $17.00 hourly

Responsibilities

Planning and leading engaging educational youth programs, including but not limited to STEAM, College/Career Readiness, Youth Leadership, Literacy, and Recreational activities that align with both the Indiana Academic and Afterschool Standards
Assist the Youth Directors with developing relationships and collaborations in the community in order to promote programs and obtain community input
Assist the Youth Directors with keeping accurate records of student attendance and activities
Assist the Youth Directors with planning and/or executing Family Engagement events for the students of our programs
Assist in and lead the setup and tear down of all spaces utilized in the Youth Initiative programming
Prepare meals for JAM Connect while abiding by the health code as well as food and storage procedure
Abide by the Youth imPACT statements
Interact with youth ranging in grade levels 6 to 12 on a daily basis with excitement, professionalism, and genuine interest
Recognize that youth are ever-changing, and the role of Youth Advocate is to help young people facilitate autonomy, build self-awareness, develop metacognition, and construct identity while providing the support they express a need.
Maintaining a tidy and clean environment for the youth to engage in planned programming and activities

Qualifications

High School Diploma.
18 years of age or older.
Self-motivated and high level of organizational skills.
Experience working in non-profit organizations preferred
Experience working with youth
Strong communication skills with people of all ages
