Every school day ends differently for every child. For some, it means heading home to finish homework around the kitchen table. For others, it means finding a safe place to spend the afternoon while parents finish work.
At JAM Center, those afternoon hours become opportunities to learn, build confidence and create meaningful relationships with caring adults. That is why volunteers play such an important role in our after-school program.
While helping with homework is certainly valuable, volunteers provide so much more than academic support. They celebrate small victories, encourage students who are struggling, model kindness, and remind every child that someone believes in them.
Sometimes the biggest impact comes from something as simple as sitting beside a student while they work through a difficult math problem or asking about their day over a snack.
This fall, JAM Center is especially seeking volunteers for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Volunteers with tutoring or educational experience are especially encouraged to get involved, but no special background is required. We also welcome volunteers for our Monday, Wednesday and Friday programs from 3 to 6 p.m.
Whether you can volunteer every week or just occasionally, your presence matters.
Research consistently shows that positive adult relationships help improve academic performance, increase confidence and strengthen emotional well-being. Those relationships often begin with something as simple as showing up.
If you've been looking for a meaningful way to invest in the next generation, consider spending a few hours each week at JAM Center.
You may think you're helping with homework. In reality, you might be helping build confidence, resilience and hope. We'd love to welcome you to our volunteer team.
